We thank parents who have responded enthusiastically to this column.
Due to the length of some of the testimonies, we have taken the liberty to publish extracts or summary of the text. Great care has been taken to maintain the original flavour and essence.
"When we checked out Sek Seri Cahaya, we were surprised to see most of what we felt as important in a school is found here. Today, we have 3 kids studying here and our oldest is now in Junior 6. Most of the teachers are competent and confident in what they do; there are even some exceptional teachers who inspire and love kids. They are generally open to discussion if there are concerns. Children are respectful towards teachers yet feel comfortable in their presence. This includes the Principals of the Junior and Senior schools. We are impressed to find that they seem to know most of the kids by name.
The school has a positive environment for the children to grow. The atmosphere here is generally positive. Our fear of having snobbish kids who demand expensive things and comparing [branded goods] amongst themselves, etc is put to rest when we find most of the kids here seem to be 'regular kids'. We are impressed to find many of them articulate very well, are confident and well-mannered. This has good influence on our children.
On ECA:
... chances are given to children to present at assemblies, speech & drama classes, concerts, charity drives, camps, and other activities. Learning is therefore enhanced.
Perfect schools?
There is no perfect school with perfect teachers. We have found that SSC at least provides what we feel is important to education and growth of our children. We like the emphasis of a well rounded and balanced education.
How was school today?
... more often than not "fun" and "good". I guess that is important to us because if our kids are happy going to school, they will learn."
